Kindergarten
At Beaconhouse Al-Khaleej International School (BAKIS), our Early Years program is thoughtfully designed to nurture the whole child through engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. We focus on six key areas of development:
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language, and Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning, and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Expression
Arabic language is introduced from Pre-KG and KG1, and continues in KG2, building a strong foundation before it becomes a core subject in elementary and secondary grades.
Our Early Years team provides an innovative, inquiry-based learning environment that supports each child’s natural curiosity. We recognize that every child is a unique learner who brings their own ideas, interests, and creativity into the classroom.
In Pre-KG and KG1, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, complemented by structured phonics, early mathematics, and our Accelerated Reading Program, which empowers students to begin developing reading skills from the earliest stage. Reading and writing are introduced in meaningful, engaging ways, based on each child’s readiness and enthusiasm for learning.
Learning in the Early Years takes place through learning centers and thematic units, which promote hands-on exploration, inquiry, and creativity. These approaches provide context and relevance, helping young learners make meaningful connections between their experiences and the world around them.
KG2 follows the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Students actively explore scientific concepts through hands-on investigations, promoting curiosity, reasoning, and scientific thinking.
To enrich engagement and individualize instruction, we integrate technology through rotational iPads and various digital learning platforms, enhancing literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills.
Our Kindergarten students also participate in school-wide activities, including shared projects with older students, assemblies, and community events. Purpose-built indoor and outdoor spaces—such as our soft play area, Tricycle Park, and sensory playground—support physical development, imaginative play, and sensory exploration in a safe and stimulating environment.
