Curriculum and Accreditation

Beaconhouse Al-Khaleej International School (BAKIS) strives to deliver stimulating learning experiences in a safe environment which enhances children’s social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development. BAKIS caters to all learners from K-12. Beaconhouse Al-Khaleej International School is a new distinguished addition to the world of education; located in Sharjah UAE, offering US Curriculum for grades KG – 12.

Our curriculum has a clear rationale that prepares students for the following stages of their education and their roles as leading citizens by ensuring high standards in basic skills including English, Math, Science, and other MOE mandatory subjects.

The school is teaching US curriculum aligned with California Common Core Standards for English and Math and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science.

In English, the curriculum is a powerful English language arts curriculum that values the perspective of the learner, collectively and individually, it also provides next-gen learning experiences that promote higher achievement and develop the competencies needed for college and career readiness. Interactive learning blends print and technology in a student-centred, and a teacher-inspired classroom. This dynamic curriculum creates an interactive, engaging, and relevant learning environment through readings, meaningful activities, and purposeful performance tasks which encourage social collaboration as well as student ownership of learning through goal setting, choice, and reflection.

In Science, the curriculum covers life science, physical science, inquiry and technology, and the engineering design process.

In Math, the curriculum reinforces the three main areas of cognition (knowledge, application, and reasoning).  In KG and Elementary, the integrated math curriculum focuses on operations and algebraic thinking, number and operation in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry.

In High school Science, the curriculum covers life science, physical science, inquiry and technology, and the engineering design process. Inquiry approach is followed to investigate Science Fair projects. AP courses are offered from grade 10 onward for our advanced students who are seeking scientific career.  In Math, the curriculum reinforces the three main areas of cognition (knowledge, application, and reasoning).  Precalculus and Calculus are taught as separate courses in different grade levels.  Prerequisites required for other science courses are taken in consideration when deciding teaching some content before the other. There is a range of interesting elective courses provided for high school students to develop their interests and life skills.

Across grade levels, the curriculum is aligned to and meets the Ministry of Education requirements for Islamic, Arabic, Social Studies, and Moral Education. Students demonstrate their ability to apply this to their own lives and conduct in school by always doing their best and showing respect and kindness to others.

Our Art, French and Music curriculum provides an enriching outlet to express their creativity and develop an appreciation of aesthetics. From Grade 4 onwards, lessons are taught by a specialist teacher.

Our Robotics & ICT lessons reinforce the innovation and creativity skills of our students.

Our formal curriculum is enriched by a range of extra-curricular activities, external projects, after -school sports and competitions. ECAs included sports clubs, chess, and drama classes.
